For the inaugural post on this blog, I thought I’d throw some numbers out there. It’s been:
- 4 years, 7 months, 2 days since I submitted my first IMS application to the State Department
- 4 years, 2 months, 1 day since Steve and I first met
- 3 years, 6 months, 30 days since Steve and I started dating
- 2 years, 8 months, 20 days since I first took the Foreign Service Officer exam but
- 1 year, 9 months, 3 days since I passed it
- 1 year, 3 days since I passed the second part of the FSO selection process
If everything goes as planned, it will be:
- 4 months, 1 day until I start FSO traning in Washington, D.C., BUT ONLY
- EIGHT DAYS until Steve and I are married!
Wow. It seems a very long way from when you first took the test and since the second time when you passed the test. I just took my FSOT test for the first time in Dec 07 and I antsy to find out the result. Congrats and best wishes to your new family and future. Keep us updated…I hardly find blogs of foreign svc officers who just started off. What type of work will you do for State? And did you test in that area both times?
Thanks for commenting, Andrew! I tested as a consular officer both times. Good luck with your FSOT results!

I guess that means you are married now. Congratulations on that and on joining the FS.
I have added a link to your blog on my list of FS blogs at http://lifeafterjerusalem.blogspot.com.
Thanks for the link and the congratulations! –Lisa

Hi Lisa,
I am in the middle of medical and security clearances. I am following the IMS route. I took the FSOT exam in February but did not pass so I am pursuing the Foreign Service via the IMS path.
Now that your are an officer do you wish it would have worked out as an IMS? I am looking for a comparison of being an officer verses a IMS guy. Do you have any insights you can share? Feel free to respond to my email.
